We are seeking an Estimator that will support the Sales and Production teams by preparing accurate and detailed cost estimates for shade sails, liners, PVC fabrication, and custom industrial textile projects of our AU client. This role focuses on labor estimation, material optimization, and reducing the variance between estimated vs actual production performance.
In this role, you will:
Estimation & Technical Review
- Review fabrication drawings, hand sketches, and client specifications for shade sails, liners, machine covers, and custom PVC products.
- Estimate labor hours required for HF welding, cutting, layout, sewing, patterning, and assembly workflows.
- Develop structured and accurate Excel-based costing sheets using company production rates.
- Analyze estimated vs actual fabrication hours to refine templates and improve forecasting accuracy.
- Identify fabrication risks early, including complex geometry, tight tolerances, and unusual materials.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Coordination
- Work closely with the Sales Manager and Production Team to refine pricing inputs and assumptions.
- Prepare draft quotations, scope summaries, and costing breakdowns for internal review.
- Maintain and update costing libraries (material GSM, weld speeds, consumables, standard margins).
Continuous Improvement
- Provide feedback to improve production templates and patterning accuracy.
- Recommend adjustments to estimating logic based on recurring variances or production constraints.
- Support the enhancement of material usage optimization and labor efficiency.
Requirements
We’re Looking for Someone Who has:
- Experience estimating within industrial manufacturing, custom fabrication, or textile fabrication.
- Exposure to production environments involving welding, sewing, cutting, and assembly.
- Experience converting sketches, site measurements, or incomplete drawings into accurate cost estimates.
Technical Skills:
- Strong Excel proficiency (formulas, structured costing templates, calculations).
- Ability to read fabrication drawings and understand tensioned structure design.
- Knowledge of industrial textile fabrication processes including cutting, sewing, HF/RF/HW/Ultrasonic welding, patterning and layout logic, and fabric behavior.
- Comfortable working with measurements, dimensions, tolerances, and technical terminology.
