36 Education has been steadily growing since 2019 and is currently hiring part-time, remote, experienced ACT/SAT tutors to join our team, for a high number of summer hours but with the hopes that the tutor could still work on a part-time basis throughout the school year. There will be a several-month ramp-up time in terms of hours after training is completed, as we pair you with your first students and assess the success of the relationships and student results, then pair you with a large caseload for the summer. All of our successful tutors do end up with a full caseload that matches their desired maximum.
Please apply only if you can tutor all four sections of the ACT (Math, Science, English, Reading) or both sections of the new digital SAT.
• This particular position is perfect for individuals looking for summer-heavy work but who cannot maintain that level of work throughout the school year. If you are hoping for a consistently high workload, we have a different role for that, but you may apply here and specify that you are looking for the year-round tutoring role.
• Long-term only - tutors tend to stay with us for years (our current average tenure is 4.7 years), and students work with us for 6 months on average. Preference is given to tutors who, beyond the 25-40 hour summer workload, can take at least a few students throughout the school year.
• Summer-specific work will involve tutoring the same student for a ten-hour Monday-Friday week (two hours each day).
• All tutoring is done from your home, using our unique digital whiteboard environment in which you and your student are both on camera and microphone working off of uploaded 36's PDF resources together.
• Responsibilities will mainly involve: tutoring ACT and SAT students according to 36's personalized curriculum, sending detailed homework assignments, writing detailed progress reports to parents once a week.
• During the summer, the hours will generally be between 9 am and 4 pm local time. If you tutor for us during the school year, Sunday through Thursday schedule required: during the school year, 6-8hours on Sundays (Sunday times are flexible) and Monday-Thursday after school is the ideal schedule;
• Tutors who are successful in tutoring with us will have a full inventory of students if they so wish, but be aware that it does take time to ramp up a new tutor's caseload to a full workweek.
Requirements:
• Thoughtful and well-composed answers to the required pre-screening questions. You may use AI to polish an already-fully-written answer, but we will reject any applications that are fully AI-generated.
• Intrinsic passion for helping students achieve their highest potential.
• SAT score of 1540+ OR ACT composite score of 35 or 36 (we can give you a practice test to complete if you don’t have your official score handy) - if you're currently close to that composite score with a 33 or 34, that's okay too, as we can train you to a 35 or 36!
• Experience with the new SAT a strong bonus, but not required
• A strong, reliable internet connection and reasonably professional setting in which to tutor on camera.
• ACT tutoring expertise is required, shown by an ability to guide students to the answer without doing the work for them, teaching accurate information, letting students make mistakes and responding effectively to them, thinking about the ACT well beyond a simple ability to show students how to solve questions. We need this tutor to be able to hit the ground running fairly quickly once training (~60 hours) is done.
• Caring and empathetic interest in students as people.
• Deep commitment to the client—diligent, responsible, communicative.
• Strong sense of ethics and unshakable integrity, as you will be working with colleagues, all of whom share these traits.
• Ability to accept and implement feedback in a genuine, mature, and thoughtful manner.
Compensation:
• $40-$60/hour for tutoring (dependent on experience and cost of living areas; the higher end of this range is available for a truly extraordinary level of success and/or a high COL area); annual compensation increases based on transparent ratings are conducted for all tutors
• A higher, separate tutoring rate is available for tutors who can also work with MCAT, LSAT, GRE, GMAT
• $15-18/hour for administrative work: writing progress e-mails, assigning homework, meeting with your case manager, miscellaneous tasks.
• 401(k) with 4% employer match.
• Paychecks are sent bi-weekly on Fridays via direct deposit.
What our tutors like about working here:
• Extensive library of resources to use: we’ve worked hard to develop an ACT and SAT curriculum that goes far beyond practice questions by including lessons, reviews, and drills that we developed in-house.
• Our team: we’re nerdy, compassionate, progressive, hard-working, and obsessed with helping students.
• Remote work but with a deep sense of camaraderie and connection - tutors aren't an island here and are well-supported by their managers.
