About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer – Data Governance to design, implement, and scale our enterprise data governance framework. This role is pivotal in ensuring data integrity, quality, security, and accessibility across the organization.
You will work closely with data architects, engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to deploy governance tools, automate data quality workflows, and enforce data stewardship practices.
Key Responsibilities
Data Governance & Strategy
- Design and implement a scalable data governance framework aligned with business goals and industry standards
- Establish governance policies, standards, and best practices across the organization
Data Quality Management
- Build and maintain tools/APIs to automate data quality monitoring and reporting
- Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and consistency across systems
Data Stewardship
- Drive data stewardship initiatives and promote accountability across business and technical teams
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define data ownership and governance processes
Metadata Management
- Develop and automate metadata management systems
- Ensure proper classification, cataloging, and discoverability of data assets
Data Lineage
- Build and maintain data lineage frameworks to track data flow across systems
- Enhance lineage capabilities of existing tools for better traceability and transparency
Compliance & Security
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations such as GDPR and CCPA
- Work with legal and compliance teams to enforce data protection policies
Collaboration & Enablement
- Partner with cross-functional teams to implement governance practices
- Conduct training sessions and promote awareness of data governance tools and standards
Continuous Improvement
- Evaluate and enhance governance frameworks to meet evolving business and regulatory needs
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of governance policies and processes
- Provide regular reporting on data quality, governance metrics, and compliance status
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- 3+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or data engineering
- Strong programming skills in Python or similar languages
- Experience with data quality tools such as Monte Carlo, Metaplane
- Hands-on experience with data governance tools like Alation, Atlan, data.world, or Secoda
- Solid understanding of data modeling, data lineage, and data classification
- Experience with Snowflake, dbt, and Looker
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
- Experience with data integration tools (e.g., Fivetran, ETL/ELT pipelines)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
