Optical Training Institute (OTI) is hiring an Optical Learning Experience Designer to create training that drives skill development and measurable on-the-job performance for optical practices. The role involves designing engaging course content, writing and recording new multimedia material, reviewing content for quality, and supporting learners and practice teams.
Responsibilities
• Leverage OTI’s content library and author network to create training that drives skill development and measurable performance improvement for practices
• Edit and refine course structure to be clear, concise, and job-realistic, using practical examples engaging elements and realistic training scenarios
• Transform static content into interactive learning (decision points, branching scenarios, troubleshooting flows, “what would you do next?” practice)
• Ensure learning is mobile-friendly and easy to complete in short sessions
• Write and record new content when gaps exist in current programs or when technology changes
• Produce multimedia learning: short videos, webinars, podcasts, and micro-lessons with scripts, run-of-show plans, and lesson outlines
• Build roleplays, scenario banks, and quick job aids that support on-the-job execution
• Review and improve content from authors and SMEs for technical accuracy, clarity, and consistent instructional voice
• Use learner and customer feedback to clarify common confusion points and continuously raise the quality bar
• Help strengthen OTI templates, standards, and repeatable production systems
• Answer content and course-experience questions; troubleshoot common learning issues and escalate technical items when needed
• Identify patterns from support interactions to inform course priorities and platform/product improvements
Skills
• ABO Master or Advanced certification strongly preferred
• Experience teaching optics at the college level or leading optical training in a professional role (or equivalent adult/professional education)
• Significant hands-on optical experience, including dispensing and practical application of optical concepts
• Experience building and leading training programs (in an academic, retail, or multi-location environment)
• Strong writing skills with the ability to make complex topics clear, practical, and learner-friendly
• Comfort working directly with customers/learners and handling a portion of customer support responsibilities
• Organized, detail-oriented, and able to own outcomes in a fast-paced environment
