Lead Accountant, Grant/Fund Specialist (Remote)

About the position The Lead Accountant is focused on foundation accounting, donor restricted assets and grant reporting for all of Trinity Health of New England (THOfNE). Responsible for donor restricted accounting ($152 million of donor restricted assets) and grant accounting (approximately 200 financial grant reports completed and submitted to granting agencies annually and $5.2 million of federal and state grant expenditures) for THOfNE. The lead accountant is responsible for completing all THOfNE grant financial reporting requirements through coordination with the various program managers. This position also performs the Foundation accounting as well as all donor restricted activities. Additionally, THOfNE has a stand-alone audit requirement for a state and federal grant at 9.30 and this colleague is instrumental in coordinating the audit requests. Responsible for assisting in the development and maintenance of accurate financial information for assigned areas of the general ledger; general ledger account analysis and reconciliations and financial statements for the Health Ministry (“HM”) and Market Record to Report (“R2R”) shared services area. The Lead Accountant is expected to demonstrate problem solving skills as related to healthcare financial operations and an understanding of external, regulatory, payor and other forces impacting health care financial operations including US Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (“GAAP”) and other regulatory reporting requirements, IRS regulations, etc. Maintains awareness of new industry developments and standards. Serves as a key resource leading and mentoring staff, driving key accounting projects, and participating with management as a thought leader. Establishes and maintains positive relationships with leaders from HM, Service Area, Trinity Health, and related entities and exhibits the ability to maintain confidentiality. Responds to requests for information. Reviews financial records, and financial statements including Audit Requirements for Federal Awards (grants; “Uniform Guidance” or “Single Audit”) and other RHM specific audit requirements. Leads the timely implementation of agreed upon audit recommendations related to areas of responsibility. Prepares annual 990 and other tax returns and accumulation of financial information to support community benefit reporting. Prepares sales and use tax reporting, local personal property tax reporting, annual escheatment of unclaimed property reporting, mandatory government surveys and others related reporting. Completes inter-company billing, cash transfers, and reconciles inter-company balances with system office and other HMs. Leads and mentors' staff in a positive and constructive manner and proactively plans, creates and participates in staff development activities to enhance technical, analytical and professional skills of the staff. Incorporates strong and sound business acumen into day-to-day operations and interaction with colleagues. Partner closely with Manager or Director of Finance to ensure alignment between financial operations and business unit priorities. Serves as a lead accounting resource to support the Finance Management team with reporting activities, influencing, and coordinating the support of other financial operations and reporting resources. Assists with departmental development and maintenance activities including identifying and initiating process and service improvements with the support of management. Requirements • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, or Finance. • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) plus years' experience in accounting. Nice-to-haves • CPA and Healthcare exposure preferred. • Experience working with various computer accounting systems. • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite.
