Arup is a global consultancy that guides, plans, and designs the future of the built environment. They are seeking a Graduate Transport Planner to join their Transport Planning team, which focuses on various aspects of transportation engineering and planning, including data analysis and conceptual design of transportation infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Conducting background research on specific locations, strategies, or policies
- Data collection and quantitative analysis competency
- Completing and documenting technical analyses
- Report writing
- Performing analyses using a variety of tools including Excel, GIS, R, FME and (depending on the project) more detailed transportation analysis tools such as MassMotion, SYNCHRO, Vissim, or Aimsun
- Attending team, consultant, and client meetings
- Preparing technical and non-technical content for, and speaking in presentations
- Working with people from other disciplines to gain knowledge on new subjects
- Conducting occasional field work or site visits
Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Transportation or Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Geospatial analysis, other engineering fields related to the public realm, or closely related discipline required
- Compelling verbal, written, and visual communication abilities, particularly in the communication of complex and technical information for digestion by non-technical readers
- Some work experience in the transportation planning industry either through research applications or internships
- Demonstrable knowledge of the Canadian transportation environment and the challenges and opportunities in the region regarding transportation and planning
- Emerging project management/coordination skills (task planning, time management, etc.)
- Understanding of the interactions between data science and analysis, transport planning principles and urban resiliency
- Multi-disciplinary awareness, creativity, and technical curiosity
- Candidate must be eligible to work in Canada without the need for employer sponsored work authorization now or in the future
- A master's degree in a discipline that, ideally, complements the field of study at the bachelor level (i.e., dual training in related but separate disciplines)
- Internship with transportation consulting firm or major transportation agency
- Bilingual in French and English (both written and oral communication)
