Freelance Graphic Designer — Animation-Ready Design for Tech & Education
Immediate Need: Design illustrations and storyboards for animated explainer videos.
About the Work
Poley Creative is a video production and animation agency making DevRel and educational content for tech companies like Cloudflare and others.We need a freelance designer who can create clean text layouts, work with icon systems, and illustrated assets that are built to animate.
That means you design with motion in mind — you understand layer structure, how a composition will move, and why restraint makes animation better. You'll work alongside our producers, editors, and animators to turn client briefs into storyboards and design assets that hand off cleanly to motion.
What the work looks like day-to-day:
• Storyboard development from scripts and creative briefs
• Working with icon sets, extending them as necessary, creating text layouts, and simple illustrations optimized for After Effects
• Working within client brand systems — understanding their guidelines and designing to them, not around them
Collaborating asynchronously with our production team on multiple projects with tight timelines
Occasional internal brand and document design
What we're looking for:
Strong portfolio showing clean, minimal design work — especially assets built for animation
Fluency in Figma, Illustrator, and After Effects (you don't need to be an animator, but you need to understand the pipeline)
• Ability to work within established brand systems across multiple clients simultaneously
• Clear communication, especially around feedback and revisions
• Reliability and follow-through — we're building a long-term freelance relationship, not filling a one-off gig

We're a small, tight team based in Portland, OR. We produce educational video content — explainers, interview series, course material — for tech companies and organizations with complex stories to tell. Our designers work directly with our producers and animators, so you'll have real creative input, not just pixel-pushing.
Pay: $30.00 - $40.00 per hour
