We are a small, multi-disciplinary studio and we have an immediate opening on our team for a Fabricator. This role works collaboratively with our team to help bring our projects to completion.
As a small and busy studio, we have many fast moving projects at all levels of execution. With a big portion of our projects being fabrication, production & installation, we need a skilled Fabricators on our Production team. Our scopes consistently include; sample development, creating custom build plans, timelines, budget support, purchasing/procurement, organizing/planning, team collaboration, strong communication, assembly, building/fabrication, finishing touches, installations and shop maintenance.
Our builds have an attention to detail and thoughtful execution. We have a high standard of quality and execution that we and our clients are proud of. Our projects have a wide range of build-type, install, material and medium so we are looking for someone who has a wide range of experience and a steady hand. The qualities we will look for are: Experienced builder, great communication at every step, collaborative, detail oriented, good listener, takes direction well, asks questions for clarity as needed, on-time, reliable, clean, organized, professional, positive and stays productive. Our builds are subject to change as they are being developed so we need someone who is flexible, open & curious.
This role spends about 85% of their time on the physical aspects of the position: purchasing, materials pick up, site visits, sample exploration & development, building/fabrication, finishing, installing and post-install punch list reviews. The remaining 15% is spent on the administrative, planning & communication aspects of the role; working in our project management software, reading up on project approved designs, digesting design intent, asking good questions, coming up with build options/ideas, writing out production plans, working on timelines/milestones, forecasting needs from the studio to meet the deadline and attending weekly team meetings.
Responsibilities
Planning, development of and follow through for assigned fabrication projects
Collaboration & review of sample development plans, communication throughout sample builds and timely execution of sample
Collaboration of deliverable feasibility and any research and/or support needed to communicate back to the client
Project prep, builds, finishing and painting according to the project specifications and build plans
Learn, embrace and consistently use studio practices and techniques
Required experience in Joinery, Framing, Painting, and Finish work
Consistent and frequent communication in our project management tool (Basecamp)
Pre-emptive review of all project aspects to inform the builds
Daily documentation of project status, completed aspects and outstanding areas to resolve
Attendance at occasional project meetings to inform upcoming tasks, collaborate and align on how to move forward
Embrace the unconventional projects and find ways to overcome challenges of new techniques
Keep studio organized and clean
Always follow safety protocol
Abide by “measure twice, cut once”
Rise to the challenges, bringing new ideas and options to the table
Occasional errands for materials and supplies
Keep a positive attitude
Participate in team meetings for project tactical plans & alignment before and throughout process
Tool Proficiency with: Table saw, Miter saw, Band saw, Nail gun, Screw guns, Circular saw, Jig saw & Router
Job Requirements
2+ years of professional carpentry/build experience
2+ years of painting/finishing experience
Experience in the Arts a plus
Can read build plans, floor plans and diagrams
Has experience putting together production plans for projects
Experience with sourcing, getting quotes & budgeting
Ability to listen closely, follow directions accurately and build precisely
Ability to study and adapt with our studio techniques and processes
Flexible with schedule and can work some nights and weekends
Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle for studio errands
Must pass a build test

Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week
Pay: $28-34/hour (based on Experience)
