Job Overview
The Senior Database Administrator will be responsible for coordinating physical changes to computer databases, coding, testing, and implementing database systems. Key Responsibilities
- Investigate daily database and application issues, providing timely and effective solutions to ensure minimal downtime and optimal performance.
- Play a key role in documenting existing systems and procedures, ensuring that all processes are well-documented and easily accessible.
- Assist in designing, implementing, and supporting standards and procedures for monitoring, scope management, maintenance, backups, and recovery.
- Support multiple databases in development, staging, and production environments, located in local and remote data centers.
- Configure and maintain high-availability for SQL Server, including clustering, replication, and mirroring.
- Collaborate with application teams to resolve database issues, ensuring seamless communication and effective problem-solving.
- Install server-based application software in collaboration with system administrators, ensuring smooth integration and minimal disruptions.
- Install and manage new software, updates, and patches, staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and security protocols.
- Develop and implement best practices for stored procedures, triggers, packages, tables, and views, optimizing database performance and efficiency.
- Optimize database performance by analyzing and tuning stored procedures, creating indexes and views, and implementing other optimization techniques as needed.
- Design and maintain enterprise ETL processes using various ETL tools, including SSIS, .NET scripting, and T-SQL.
- Perform database maintenance tasks and generate system reports, ensuring that all databases are running smoothly and efficiently.
- Create and implement security models, ensuring the security and integrity of our database systems and associated applications.
- Participate in application development cycles to facilitate good database design and access procedures, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure optimal database performance.
- Plan, prepare, and test backup and recovery procedures for all production databases, ensuring business continuity and minimal data loss in the event of an outage.
- Monitor databases for efficiency and periodically upgrade databases for optimal performance during scheduled downtime.
- Create indexes and control tuning parameters where necessary to optimize performance, ensuring that our databases are running at peak efficiency.
- Estimate volumetric requirements to estimate new database sizes and plan accordingly for growth, ensuring that our databases are scalable and adaptable to changing business needs.
- Communicate plans to system administrators, ensuring seamless collaboration and effective communication.
- Be responsible for the security of database systems and all business/logical applications associated with it, including creating and maintaining database and application accounts, application/database patching, and database/application security auditing.
- Perform item monitoring for performance and health, participating in load test activities to ensure optimal database performance.
- Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility and adaptability in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
Essential Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as computer science, information technology, or a similar discipline.
- Strong experience in client-server technology, with a deep understanding of SQL Server and its applications.
- 5+ years of experience as a SQL DBA in enterprise, multi-site SQL Server environments, with a proven track record of success in database administration.
- Intermediate to advanced skills with SSIS and T-SQL, with the ability to design and implement complex database systems.
- Effective written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
