We are an early-stage digital mental health startup developing an
AI-assisted self-reflection and relapse-prevention tool designed to
support individuals in recovery from eating disorders and other
behavioral health challenges.
We have successfully completed initial MVP testing and are currently
conducting pilot research with users. As we prepare to transition from
prototype to production-level application, we are seeking a consultant
with experience in digital mental health products to guide our next
phase of development from both a technical and compliance perspective.
The goal of this engagement is to define a clear, affordable, and
ethical pathway to building a HIPAA-compliant, AI-enabled behavioral
health application.
We are not currently seeking a developer to build the app, but rather
an experienced advisor who can help us determine:
• Product classification (wellness vs clinical decision support)
• HIPAA considerations for storing user journaling and behavioral data
Cloud architecture recommendations (AWS, GCP, Azure, etc.)
• Requirements for Business Associate Agreements (BAAs)
• Ethical boundaries for AI-assisted user support in eating disorder recovery
• AI guardrails to prevent unintended reinforcement of disordered behaviors
• Data collection best practices in early-stage behavioral health tools
• When clinical input becomes regulated guidance
• Team roadmap: what types of engineers or specialists we should hire next
• Whether initial development can be safely conducted using no-code /
low-code tools
• Considerations for future FDA Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) pathway

Experience working with behavioral health startups, AI-enabled health
applications, or SaMD pathways is strongly preferred.
